Bafana Bafana midfielder Bongani Zungu is in buoyant spirits after scoring his first goal since arriving at Ligue 1 side Amiens earlier this year.
Zungu completed a deadline day switch from Primeira Liga outfit Vitória Guimarães to The Unicorns in August, after just one season in Portugal.
The 25-year-old, who penned a four-year deal with the French outfit, has settled in quickly, managing 10 appearances out of 11 matches.
Last weekend, Zungu got off the mark in stunning fashion as he curled the ball low into the bottom right corner of the net from outside the area, sealing a 2-0 victory over Metz.
“Yeah, it was a very good goal. I’m happy to have scored and hopefully I can get more important goals that can help the team to achieve and keep climbing up the log,” Zungu tells KickOff.com.
Saturday’s victory was followed up by yet another three points as they beat Dijon 2-1 on Tuesday evening, taking Amiens to seventh place on the standings.
However, the former Mamelodi Sundowns workhorse says they can not afford to get ahead of themselves, and urges continued team work to keep building on their good form.
“We’re seventh on the log now. It’s exciting times but we have to remain humble and keep working hard because we’re working for one another.”
Amiens next face Kermit Erasmus’s 11th-placed Rennes on Saturday evening at 21h00 (SA time).
