Bidvest Wits captain Thulani Hlatshwayo says the return of Buhle Mkhwanazi completes the puzzle in defence for the struggling Clever Boys.
Mkhwanazi sustained a long-term knee injury back in May and returned to action in a 2-0 defeat at home to Mamelodi Sundowns just over a week ago.
Wits have missed him at the back and it’s shown in how many goals they have conceded this season.
They have shipped 15 goals in 11 matches, keeping just three clean sheets. Coach Gavin Hunt has tried four different partnerships at the back, but none of them have been able to work out for the reigning Absa Premiership champions.
Mkhwanazi came back at the right time, with the Clever Boys preparing to take on Bloemfontein Celtic in the Telkom Knockout final on Saturday.
“I am back [from a toe injury] and Buhle is also back. Having Buhle back is a massive boost. We have done well together. We started the partnership three years ago. I’ve played with Bongani [Khumalo], Slavko [Damjanovic] and I have played with Phumlani [Ntshangase], but these are partnerships that are temporary. Buhle and I have been together for three years, so we have built on the partnership,” the former Ajax Cape Town defender said.
“Buhle and I have different qualities. I have something that Buhle does not have and he has something that I don’t have. Having us together at the back completes the puzzle.”
