AmaZulu forward Mabhuti Khenyeza had mixed emotions after scoring a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw with his former club Ajax Cape Town at Athlone Stadium on Saturday.
The 35-year-old sniped a valuable away point for Usuthu when he pounced with a pin-point header in stoppage time after coming off the bench after the hour mark.
This was soon after strike partner Mhlengi Cele made it 2-1 in the 90th minute when he toe poked from close range to give Jody February no chance in the Ajax goal.
“It was okay, it brings back a lot of memories,” Khenyeza told KickOff.com.
“I love Ajax, I played for them and they were good as they took care of me. But it was good to be back and play against them.”
Khenyeza also praised his teammates for coming back from 2-0 down to level the Premiership match.
“We try to push and fight and the players did, so well done. They, Ajax, are a good side too,” Khenyeza added.
AmaZulu coach Cavin Johnson was naturally pleased for Khenyeza, who has scored over 100 PSL goals in his career.
“Look, I knew Mabhuti is an ex-Ajax player and he knows exactly how to keep deep and that is what he has done,” said Johnson.
“Ja, good cross, Mabhuti can score goals. He’s always had goals in his feet and he put one today with his head.”
Usuthu, in ninth spot on the table with 14 points from 11 games, next host Bloemfontein Celtic on December 6.
