Absa Premiership match report Kaizer Chiefs v Free State Stars 25 November 2017

Posted: 25 November 2017 Time: 12:46

Bernard Parker rescued Kaizer Chiefs in their 1-1 draw with Free State Stars on Saturday evening at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Amakhosi were on the back foot early on in the half as Stars carved out a clear goalscoring opportunity in the seventh minute with Sinethemba Jantjie cutting on the defence and went for goal on the edge of the area but his shot went across the face of goal.

The hosts nearly opened the scoring in the 19th minute after a defensive blunder handed Gustavo Paez a loose ball inside the box. Paez had a crack at goal with a low shot that was parried onto George Maluleka's path who only shot wide.

Siphiwe Tshabalala had acres of space on the edge of the box in the 31st minute to try and chip the goalkeeper Badra Ali Sangare with an audacious lob but the strike sailed over the bar.

Maluleka should have grabbed the lead for Steve Komphela's charges in the 38th minute being given a lot of space to strike from inside the edge of the box however his shot missed the inside top corner by inches.

Joseph Molangoane sent a fine cross five minutes before halftime with Bernard Parker nicking in a diving header but it could not hit the target.

The Glamour Boys were gaining momentum towards the end of the half but it ended scoreless.

Jantjie turned brilliantly on the edge of the box 10 minutes into the second stanza and had space to hit a blockbuster of a shot that was parried away by shot-stopper Itumeleng Khune.

Ea Lla Koto broke the deadlock in the 64th minute fortuitously after Nhlanhla Vilakazi's shot was deflected by Daniel Cardoso with a header into his own net, 0-1.

However, Komphela's troops responded almost immediately with Parker finding space inside the box to unleash a right-footed shot that sailed into the back of the net four minutes later, 1-1.

The match was still open after 80 minutes with both sides going for the winner.

Molangoane had a fantastic chance to get Amakhosi's second five minutes before time but instead of taking responsibility inside the box he opted to pass with the net gaping and they lost the opportunity.

Tshabalala almost scored the winner three minutes from time with an attempted lob on the edge of the box but his effort bounced on top of the net with Sangare out of his line.

The Glamour Boys pressurised Stars for the winner in the closing minutes but it was not to be and they settled for the share of spoils.
