Platinum Stars and in-form Bloemfontein Celtic played out to a 0-0 draw at a rain-soaked Royal Bafokeng Stadium in the Absa Premiership.
With five minutes having been played, Vuyo Mere tested Patrick Tignyemb with a stinging low shot but the Cameroonian was up to the task.
Approaching the half-hour mark both teams showed little goal-mouth action, however the home side enjoyed a larger share of ball possession.
The first half ended without any goals.
Five minutes into the second half, Brian Mwila found the back of the net for the home side only to be ruled offside.
Mwila was eventually substituted for 19-year-old Gift Links after 60 minutes.
Mere was put through on goal by Robert Ng'ambi but the skipper put his effort over the crossbar, with 70 minutes played.
Roger de Sa's charges continued to dominate ball possession as was the case in the first half but the visitors' defence stood firm.
In the 79th minute, second-half substitute Kabelo Mahlasela profited from a defensive error then unleashed a drive that was well saved by Bonagni Mzimela.
Chances were coming thick and fast heading into the final 10 minutes as Ng'ambi missed a sitter with only the goalkeeper to beat.
In the end, neither team could find the elusive goal needed to break the deadlock as they shared the spoils.
