Orlando Pirates explain Wayne Sandilands' absence against Golden Arrows

Posted: 22 November 2017 Time: 10:05

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands is expected back at training later this week after missing last night's goalless draw against Golden Arrows with an injury.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns man recently returned to the Bucs camp from Bafana Bafana duty suffering from acute tendonitis in his Achilles.

Sea Robbers coach Milutin Sredojevic therefore fielded Jackson Mabokgwane in goal against Arrows at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

Pirates released a statement on their website, which reads: 'Goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands’ absence in Orlando Pirates’ goalless draw with Golden Arrows last night was not due to a tactical change but rather due to injury.

'The 34-year old returned from national team duty complaining of discomfort of his Achilles. The goal-minder was later referred to a specialist who diagnosed that Sandilands was suffering from an acute tendonitis of his Achilles.

'Sandilands is expected to return to full training later in the week.'

The Buccaneers, in sixth place on the Premiership table with 15 points from 11 matches, next visit Bloemfontein Celtic on Sunday afternoon.
