Former SuperSport United midfielder Sibusiso Mahlangu believes the return of Reneilwe Letsholonyane will give Matsatsantsa a good chance of lifting the CAF Confederation Cup on Saturday.
The experienced Letsholonyane missed out on the first leg against DRC giants TP Mazembe on Sunday due to suspension, but 19-year-old Sipho Mbule did well to fill the role alongside captain Dean Furman and scored a cracking goal in the 2-1 defeat.
Mahlangu, who also played in central midfield during his playing days, says Letsholonyane is a big game player and his presence is exactly what Eric Tinkler's side needs to overcome Mazembe on Saturday.
Letsholonyane has been one of Matsatsantsa’s star performers in the competition and has used the experience he gained as a Bafana Bafana player on the continent to inspire the Tshwane outfit to the final.
He looks set to play alongside Furman in the second leg on Saturday (20h15).
“'Yeye' is an experienced player. He has played in a lot of finals and he has played in front of a big crowd. He is a player for big games,” Mahlangu says.
“This is a game that comes with pressure, so you need experience. You need players who know when to attack and when to hold and Yeye is not the type of player who will run around like a headless chicken. He has helped SuperSport defensively and offensively. He is the ace up SuperSport’s sleeve.
“The young boy [Mbule] is a good player and he is a future prospect, but I would play Dean and Yeye and maybe bring on the young boy at a later stage.”
It’s Yeye’s ability to find a chink in the opposition's armour with his passes that gives Mahlangu hope that SuperSport will score goals on home soil.
“He can release the likes of Thuso Phala and Aubrey Modiba with his passes, which will help SuperSport a lot.”
