Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Pollen Ndlanya praises AmaZulu hitman Siyabonga Nomvethe

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Pollen Ndlanya believes 39-year-old Siyabonga Nomvethe would easily get into the Amakhosi starting line-up and perform.

Chiefs are currently struggling to find someone who can bang in the goals regularly and Ndlanya, who played with Nomvethe at the club, strongly feels that the veteran forward would be doing a much better job if he were in the colours of the Soweto giants.

Nomvethe, now playing for AmaZulu, is likely to feature when Usuthu take on Chiefs at Moses Mabhida Stadium tomorrow (19h30) and he will no doubt cause problems if given an opportunity to play.

"The thing about our football is that there is politics. People look at age and say he is old. I prefer an old man who can perform rather than a young player who does not perform," Ndlanya tells

“You can put 'Bhele' in the Chiefs line-up and he can perform for them, I have no doubt about it. That’s how good he is. It’s the age that affects him, but age is just a number. Let’s see how he performs tomorrow, but I am sure that at any given time he can score the goals."

Ndlanya praised Nomvethe for looking after himself for all these years. The former Bafana Bafana striker turns 40 next month, but he is putting some younger players to shame with his speed and skills on the pitch.

"At his age he is amazing. It shows that he looks after himself. He is outclassing the young players," Ndlanya says.

"The way he runs at players, the skills and he has an eye for goals … we must give credit to him. He went down to NFD [National First Division] with AmaZulu and he performed and he is still performing now that they are back in the PSL. I don’t think he will have anything to prove when he comes up against Chiefs.

"Chiefs players know how good he is, so they will not leave him alone because he can score at any given time."
