Polokwane City coach Bernard Molekwa urges his players to reach a first ever final

Polokwane City coach Bernard Molekwa says it’s about time the club makes history by qualifying for a first ever knockout competition final.

City will host in-form Bloemfontein Celtic in their first Telkom Knockout semi final appearance at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium this afternoon (15h30). The winner between City and Celtic will face reigning league champions Bidvest Wits in the final next month, after the Clever Boys edged Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 on Saturday.

Molekwa says his players are aware of the high expectations heading into their game against Siwelele today.

“Everyone is aware [of the expectaions],” said Molekwa.

“We have some players who have already played in cup finals before and there are those who have never tasted a cup final. This is the time for everybody associated with the club to put more effort to go to the final. It’s history not only for club, but even for their families and for themselves.

“There is no other chance like this. It’s still in our hands, we have to make sure we do well on Sunday and go to the final,” he added.

The Rise and Shine coach has credited their success so far to unity in the squad and a good working relationship with management.

“It’s not about me, it’s all about the club. Credit should go to the players and management for the support they give to the technical team."

City are expected to welcome back goalkeeper George Chigova after he recovered from a knee injury he sustained in the quarterfinal clash against Soweto giants Orlando Pirates.
