Kaizer Chiefs utility player Joseph Molangoane has explained his recent form at right-back, and denies trying to prove a point regarding his value within the team.
Molangoane has been in fine fettle in recent weeks, picking up two man-of- the-match awards for his exploits in the absence of Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Kgotso Moleko due to injury.
'Tight' had not been getting regular game-time prior to taking up the wing-back role, but argues that he has not been trying to prove anything, and it was not a case of 'beggars can't be choosers' when it comes to his preferred position.
"I'm not trying to prove anything to anyone. I'm just at work, doing my job," responded Molangoane, when asked if he is trying to prove a point with his performances.
"The position I'm playing now is the position I used to play when I was at the Jazzy Queen academy, so for me it's not something new. It's something that for years and years I was playing, so it's not hectic [to adjust to].
"Me being in the field is my happy place. I just go there, do what I have to do and put everything in that I have to."
Amakhosi come up against Bidvest Wits in the Telkom Knockout semi-finals at the Bidvest Stadium at 15h30 this Saturday, with both sides in dire need of a morale-boosting cup final appearance.
However, Molangoane knows it will not be an easy passage, while admitting respect for the Clever Boys despite their topsy-turvy run of results this season.
"As a team, we respect Bidvest [Wits] a lot, and it's not going to be an easy game. They are the [league] champions at the end of the day, and they'll come to show that," he said.
"Surely they want to win this trophy as much as we want it, so we just have to work hard and see what happens on the day."
