Ajax Cape Town midfielder Toriq Losper is trying to fight his way back into PSL contention after a lengthy spell on the sidelines saw his weight balloon to 91 kilograms.
'Tokkie', as he is known to his teammates, previously played for Ajax in a derby with Cape Town City on September 23, 2016, having torn a meniscus in his left knee last term for the second time in his career.
In the off-season he got injured again in a friendly with Bidvest Wits in August, but has since recovered and featured in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge this campaign.
"It has been difficult because I was out for six months. I came back for about a month and then I tore my hip, so it was very difficult," Losper tells KickOff.com.
"Afterwards, when I came back now I picked up to like 91 kilograms. I had to work extra hard and train inbetween the two injuries... it wasn't enough.
"So now I'm back. I just had a few games in the MDC under my belt. I'm just pushing hard to get to the PSL team."
Losper has struggled to match expectations since being handed the number 10 jersey on his promotion to the Ajax first team at the beginning of 2011/12. The 25-year-old, who was loaned to Bidvest Wits in 2014/15, is focused on giving his maximum effort.
"To me it's not about the number and things, but it's just about giving my best. I appreciate the number," he says.
"I'm trying to build something in the number and we'll just wait and see going forward."
