Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso is gearing up for a tough clash against Bidvest Wits this weekend, and is hungry to go all the way and bag his first trophy.
Chiefs visit the Clever Boys at the Bidvest Stadium to face off in the Telkom Knockout semi-finals, which is set to kick off at 15h30 on Saturday afternoon.
Stakes are high for both teams as Amakhosi look to end a two-and-a-half year trophy drought, while Wits have an opportunity to rediscover their league-title winning form from last season.
Steve Komphela’s charges seem to have gained some momentum in recent weeks, having strung together a five-match unbeaten run in the league and cup.
Meanwhile, Gavin Hunt’s men are still trying to build some consistency, having managed back-to-back wins only once so far this season.
“It’s going to be a good game this weekend, Wits are not an easy team to beat. They have good players that won the league last season,” said Cardoso in the build-up towards the fixture.
“They’re also going through their ups and downs, and it’s never easy to beat a team like that – we’ve been through it – especially when losing one, winning one and drawing one.
“At least we’re going through a streak now, we haven’t lost a game since Baroka, and we’ve also been keeping clean sheets, which is a good thing for us. I think it’s going to be a great game.”
Once over the semi-final hurdle, the cup will within touching distance for either side, but the former Free State Stars man is eager to get his first taste of silverware.
“We want to win a trophy. Even myself, as a player, I haven’t won a trophy since I’ve been here or any other team I’ve been at,” he added.
“So it’s two games away, and we need it for ourselves [players], the club and the fans. We haven’t won anything in two seasons and this is another chance now.”
