Kaizer Chiefs' Steve Komphela backs Brilliant Khuzwayo and Co as he sweats over Itumeleng Khune

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has confidence in his reserve goalkeepers should Itumeleng Khune return from Senegal the worse for wear.

Amakhosi will visit the reigning league champions Bidvest Wits at the Bidvest Stadium for their Telkom Knockout semi-final this Saturday, with kick-off set for 15h30.

Despite having played both of Bafana Bafana's World Cup qualifiers against the Lions of Teranga this past week, there are still doubts as to Khune's availability for this weekend's crucial cup clash considering he suffered a facial fracture on November 5.

The national team are set to touch down at OR Tambo International Airport this evening, with the 30-year-old shot-stopper expected to report for an assessment only on Friday morning.

Komphela will then be tasked with deciding whether to put Khune at risk of further injury, or possibly turn to one of the reserves for Saturday's tie.

"They're all ready – Brilliant [Khuzwayo] is ready, Brylon [Petersen] has been training well too, [Bruce] Bvuma is also there," said Komphela.

"The only thing that I may be happy about is that he played without a mask [on Tuesday night]."

Another concern would be Erick Mathoho and Siphiwe Tshabalala's match readiness, given that they would possibly only participate in one training session.

"The only thing we will be worried about is 'Tower' and 'Shabba', if given an opportunity to play on Saturday, would they have recovered because it's taxing to travel through Africa, but there's nothing you can do about it," he added.
