Mamelodi Sundowns' MDC coach David Notoane has accepted their title defence is in tatters and hopes Tshwane neighbours SuperSport United are next to claim Reserve League honours.

Notoane's charges were thumped 3-0 by SuperSport on Saturday, and find themselves at the foot of the table with four points from seven games.

Matsatsantsa are fourth in the standings with 14 points - two points shy of leaders Bloemfontein Celtic.

"It was payback time although losing any derby is never nice, collaborating to a fact that last season the victory was indeed celebrated by us," Notoane is quoted as saying by the PSL's website.

"However, it's now a moment of our neighbours so therefore I wish them great success moving forward and hope SuperSport brings the MDC home."

United counterpart Kwanele Kopo was naturally pleased with the victory at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, Durban.

"Impressive moments and amazing result, all thanks to the midfielders for cutting through the opposition’s defenders and putting in the goals.

"The opponents were slow at the back, that’s why they played with two strikers. But overall we happy with the performance and hope that we can build on it."
