Thomas Meunier reveals he turned down a move to Chelsea on Deadline Day

Posted: 12 November 2017 Time: 13:15

Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier has revealed he turned down the chance to join Chelsea during the mid-year transfer window.

The 26-year-old joined PSG from Club Brugges in 2016 but was linked with a move away from Parc des Princes as the Ligue 1 giants were in the market for another full-back.

And while Les Parisians eventually secured the signing of Dani Alves from Juventus, Meunier has revealed he preferred to stay and fight for his spot and ultimately rejected a move to Stamford Bridge.

He told Belgian TV: "I was expecting PSG to sign another right-back, but didn't foresee them getting Dani Alves. I didn't know what to think. Was I going to remain on the subs' bench all the time?

"I could have left for Chelsea on the final day of the transfer window. But I didn't want to join them. I am happy at PSG and I don't want to leave."
