Ruben Loftus-Cheek had "vision" to leave Chelsea in order to gain more Premier League game time

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has revealed he had a "vision" to leave Chelsea in the off-season in order to get his career back on track.

The 21-year-old came up through the Blues’ youth academy but found first-team football hard to come by, having made just 22 Premier League appearances for the west London giants.

Loftus-Cheek subsequently signed a one-year loan deal with Crystal Palace in July and his increased game time in the top flight has led to a call-up to the England squad for the friendly internationals against Germany and Brazil.

"I had a vision and it became quite strong that I wanted to go from Chelsea," said Loftus-Cheek.

"I felt like I needed to play a lot, so I came in and said I wanted to go away from Chelsea and play games. So we came to an agreement.

"You can only improve so much in training. Games and training are completely different. So for me to get to that next level I needed to play regular football.

"I thought it was the best decision to go from Chelsea to play and develop myself which looks like being a good thing."
