Lionel Messi still harbours Newell's Old Boys dream but remains tightlipped over immediate future

Posted: 9 November 2017 Time: 13:01

Lionel Messi admits he still harbours hopes of eventually playing for Newell's Old Boys but prefers to not look too far into the future.

The Argentina international’s future at Barcelona remains uncertain as he is yet to pen new terms at the Nou Camp, meaning he is free to talk to other clubs in January.

And while Barca are prepared to offer Messi a lifetime contract with the Catalan giants, on top of the four-year deal he agreed in July, but with nothing yet signed, a move away from La Liga may still be on the cards.

"The desire is always playing for Newell's, it is what I dreamed as a kid," Messi told Argentine channel TyC Sports.

"When I went to the club I imagined playing in the Primera Division, but I do not know what's going to happen in a few years.

"I cannot say I'm going back because I do not know where I'm going to be."
