Mamelodi Sundowns forward Percy Tau has become used to playing big matches on the continent, so he does not get fazed by any challenge.
As Bafana Bafana prepare to take on Senegal in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday, Tau is not allowing the pressure of having to deliver in such a big game get to him.
Tau, who has a CAF Champions League gold medal with Sundowns, was on the score sheet when Bafana cruised to a 3-1 victory over Burkina Faso last month and will be looking to find a chink in the Senegalese armour on Friday.
Tau, a scorer of the second goal in Bafana’s 2-0 win over Nigeria in June, is likely to start upfront for the team and is raring to go.
“To me it [pressure] is something that I am used to. I have played big games before and I know [what it takes]. I have played games where we’ve needed to win at all costs, so I just take it as a challenge. I prepare for it as a normal game because that’s what’s important. We need to give everything and the rest we will see,” said Tau after Bafana’s training session on Wednesday morning.
Tau stressed the importance of defending well and taking the opportunities they create, just as they did against Burkina Faso.
“We all know it’s a must-win. We have been working hard and we will look to take positives from the Burkina Faso game.
“This is a new game, new challenges and there’s different demands, but we will pull through. Against Burkina Faso we were solid at the back. We were organised defensively and offensively. We had good structure and we were good in front of goals. We also want to be good in front of goals against Senegal.”
