Luis Suarez feels Barcelona is the next logical step for Liverpool striker Philippe Coutinho

Luis Suarez believes Barcelona is the next logical step for Philippe Coutinho as talk of a January switch continues apace.

Liverpool striker Coutinho was expected to join the Catalan giants in the mid-year transfer window but the Reds refused to sell their star forward, having rejected multiple bids from Barca.

However, Suarez - who previously played with Coutinho before himself making the move from Anfield to the Nou Camp - is under the impression the Brazilian’s switch to Spain is only a matter of when.

When asked what Coutinho could bring to Barcelona, Suarez told Mundo Deportivo: “A lot. I know him as a person and as a player because I played with him, but what Coutinho can contribute everyone knows.

“He is a footballer, who today, plays at a very high level.”

When asked whether he believes Coutinho wanted to join Barca, Suarez said: “Obviously he must have because he’s a player who has ambition and any player would want to come to Barça.

“He went through a difficult and very complicated moment but as a professional, he continued to show how good a player he is.”
