Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas backs Zinedine Zidane to learn from season's struggles

Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas believes head coach Zinedine Zidane will only come out stronger after the club’s rocky form this season.

The Galacticos have suffered a slow start to their La Liga title defence and already find themselves eight points off the pace of leaders Barcelona.

Los Blanco also suffered a first UEFA Champions League group stage loss in some five years after going down 3-1 away to Tottenham last week to leave them second on the table.

However, Casillas - who won five La Liga trophies and three European Cups with Madrid between 2001 and 2014 - has backed Zidane to learn invaluable lessons from their struggles this term.

"[Disappointing results] are going to make him stronger," the Porto goalkeeper told Omnisport.

"Everyone is waiting for a mistake from Real, but this is a team which has won two Champions Leagues in a row and no one could do that before.

"So apparently they are not in the best shape right now in LaLiga and they have lost a game against Tottenham, but we have to wait.

"There are still a lot of games to come in La Liga. And it's the same for the Champions League; everything is going to be decided in February."
