Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune is entertaining thoughts of playing with a mask on his face as he pushes to be available for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Senegal.
Khune has seen a specialist for the fractured bone in his face, but he will see another one before a final decision is made on his availability for Friday.
Bafana had their second training session at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday morning and they were joined by Khune’s Kaizer Chiefs teammates Siphiwe Tshabalala and Mulomowandau Mathoho.
It seems Khune is eager to do duty for his country and is prepared to play with a mask.
“Itu has seen a specialist. He is seeing one more. Khune has asked us to prepare a mask, which means he is hopeful. That could be enthusiasm [and] ambition, but the final decision will rest with the medical team,” said Bafana coach Stuart Baxter.
“We are more hopeful than we were yesterday, but we will wait on the medical people.”
The decision whether to play Khune is likely to be made by the end of today.
