Bafana Bafana midfielder Hlompho Kekana has been excused from the camp after receiving news of a family tragedy.
According to SAFA spokesperson Dominic Chimhavi, a car accident claimed the life of Kekana's mother-in-law in Hammanskraal. His two-year-old child was in the car as well.
Bafana coach Stuart Baxter may call up Tiyani Mabunda as a replacement for Kekana, depending on the latter's frame of mind heading into Friday’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Senegal.
“We will be monitoring to see if he is in good frame of mind to come back into camp,” Chimhavi said on Tuesday morning.
“He left the camp last night and we will be monitoring the situation.”
Baxter has a bit of a headache in central midfield as Andile Jali and Bongani Zungu are suspended for Friday’s game. The Brit would no doubt have wanted Kekana to feature, but at this stage Dean Furman and Kamohelo Mokotjo look set to start the Group D tie at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Kaizer Chiefs players Siphiwe Tshabalala and Mulomowandau Mathoho joined the squad in Polokwane this morning.
