Chippa's Kurt Lentjies nursing concussion following collision with Kaizer Chiefs' Itumeleng Khune

Chippa United midfielder Kurt Lentjies is recovering at home after suffering a dislocated shoulder and mild concussion in a match with Kaizer Chiefs this past Sunday.

Lentjies went for a 50-50 ball with Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune during a Telkom Knockout tie and both players ended up on the ground injured. Lentjies was bizarrely shown a yellow card by referee Phelelani Ndaba following the collision at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

While the local media has been focusing on Khune’s recovery ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifier with Senegal in Polokwane on Friday, Lentjies has been nursing his knocks in Port Elizabeth.

“I’m at home and obviously feeling better than yesterday,” Lentjies tells

“I remember going for the ball and I don’t even remember getting on to the stretcher afterwards. The doctors later told me that I walked to the dressing room after getting off the stretcher and I don’t even remember that.

“I dislocated my shoulder and I was told it’s a mild concussion but I’m feeling better now besides the shoulder which is still sore. I have a follow up doctor’s appointment tomorrow.”

Lentjies might miss Chippa’s next league match away to Free State Stars on November 22.
