Diego Simeone downplays Antoine Griezmann’s goal drought, focused on Atletico Madrid's overall form

Posted: 7 November 2017 Time: 09:41

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has played down Antoine Griezmann’s dip in form after another goalless appearance from the striker.

The France international has failed to find the back of the net for Atletico since September and was even substituted during this past weekend’s 1-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna.

However, Simeone feels the fact Atletico are still in flying form during Griezmann’s drought shows the strength of the team as a whole.

“I see that we haven’t lost in 11 League games, that we have 23 points, that Valencia only drew with us at home, that Barcelona only drew with us,” the boss told AS.

“We’re a competitive team. Griezmann is a great player on our team. I think about the positive things. If we have 23 points and Griezmann still hasn’t scored, that’s a good sign.”

He continued: “It’s clear that you’re in a better position for winning. It’s clear we have to improve, but we have to follow the path of the Villarreal game, the second half of Qarabag, the Sevilla game.

“For all that effort we get better because football pays you back and we have a very committed team. When you see men play as they did after the blow we received on Tuesday, I’m proud of them.”
