De Jesus brace sinks Leopards

A first half brace from Marcos De Jesus handed BidVest Wits a 2-1 win over Black Leopards in an Absa Premiership match played at the BidVest Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday evening.

Former Orlando Pirates forward Mulondo Sikhwivhilu pulled one back for Lidoda Duvha, but it was not enough for the visitors to prevent coach Boebie Solomons from falling to a defeat against his former club.

De Jesus got Wits off to the perfect start, converting Marawaan Bantam's cross to put the hosts into the lead as early as the ninth minute.

Seven minutes later the Brazilian was on hand again to bulge the net from David Radebe's right wing cross and put Roger De Sa's team well in control of the match.

Radebe himself almost added to the Clever Boys' tally, hitting the post with a 38th minute shot.

Leopards striker Sikhwivhilu then halved the deficit just before half time, firing home from Fischer Kondowe's pass to make it 2-1 to Wits at the break.

De Jesus was denied the chance for a hat-trick when he was replaced by Dale Studzinski with just over 20 minutes to play, as De Sa sought to find another way to break down the visitors' defence.

Leopards pushed hard for the equaliser, with both Jabu Maluleke and Robert Ng'ambi putting shots off target in the 72nd and 78th minutes respectively but the visitors simply could not find a way through Wits' stubborn defence.
