Cape Town City midfielder Thabo Nodada admits he is eyeing a move abroad, and hopes to learn as much as possible from former European star Benni McCarthy.
The 22-year-old has been one of City’s standout performers this season, playing in all but two of the club’s 14 games across all competitions.
The talented midfielder, who is quickly catching up to his 13 appearances in total last season, is happy with his form but hopes new Citizens coach McCarthy can help him with his quest to make it overseas.
“Overall, I’m happy the progression in my game, and me growing as a footballer, and happy to be learning from coach Benni,” Nodada said. “I’d love to go overseas and ply my trade, and with him now here, he’s done it overseas. So with whatever pointers he gives me, I will take very seriously and apply myself to them.”
Nodada’s high work rate and impressive displays in the centre of the park has fans nicknaming the player 'Kante' after Chelsea workhorse N’Golo. And as much as Nodada appreciates the sentiment, he aims to make a name for himself.
“Obviously it’s a big motivation, and I don’t want to see it go to an extent where, when I do go overseas, they still call me Kante,” he said. “But it gives me a lot of motivation going forward because he did wonders last season at Chelsea, and for me to be compared to him shows the amount of hard work I’m doing on the pitch is being appreciated.”
