Spanish La Liga match report FC Barcelona v Sevilla 04 November 2017

Posted: 4 November 2017 Time: 22:57

FC Barcelona maintained their unbeaten start to the season in La Liga with a 2-1 victory over Sevilla at the Camp Nou.

The Catalan giants threatened early on as Sergio Busquets saw his close-range strike cleared off the line.

Sevilla carved out their first chance in the 14th minute when Lucas Muriel dispossessed Samuel Umtiti before firing inches wide of the upright.

The deadlock was eventually broken in the 23rd minute as Paco Alcacer profited from Sergio Escudero's mistake and slotted into the bottom to hand Barca the lead.

Despite Barca's dominance, that proved to be the final bit of goal-mouth action in the half and they went into the break leading by one goal.

After a quiet start to the second half, Sevilla eventually levelled matters in the 59th minute courtesy of a powerful header from Pizzaro.

Barca went agonisingly close to leveling matters in the 65th minute as Gerard Pique rattled the crossbar with an effort from distance.

Two minutes later, Barca restored their lead as Alcacer bagged his second of the game by converting Ivan Rakitic's cross.

The visitors pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages on the second half, but they were unable to carve out another chance.

The win sees Ernesto Valverde's charges move 11 points clear of Real Madrid, who feature on Sunday.
