CAF Champions League final match report 04 November 2017

Posted: 4 November 2017 Time: 19:48

Wydad Casablanca have won the CAF Champions League after defeating Al Ahly 2-1 on aggregate.

Wydad, who eliminated Mamelodi Sundowns, managed to secure a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Egypt last weekend.

The visitors carved out a chance after 12 minutes but Walid Azaro failed to hit the target from close range.

Wydad went agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock on 30 minutes as El-Khadrouf struck the crossbar.

Four minutes later, Moamen Zakaria should have put Al Ahly ahead but he failed to beat Wydad goalkeeper Zouhair Laaroubi in a one-on-one situation.

That proved to be the final chance of the half as the sides went into the break scoreless.

Wydad looked threatening upon the resumption of the second half, although they failed to create a clear-cut opening.

The hosts eventually broke the deadlock in the 70th minute as Walid El-Karti headed home Ben Charqi's cross from the right flank.

Al Ahly nearly hit back in the 73rd minute but Rami Rabia failed to direct his close-range header on target.

Nevertheless, Wydad managed to see out the closing stages of the second half to claim the win and the Champions League title.
