Platinum Stars defender Vuyo Mere looking forward to facing former teammate Ndumiso Mabena

Platinum Stars captain Vuyo Mere is relishing the challenge of trying to contain his former teammate Ndumiso Mabena in Saturday's Telkom Knockout quarter-final clash with Bloemfontein Celtic.

Mabena spent three years with Dikwena before switching allegiance to Celtic in July.

The former Orlando Pirates striker has netted twice in 10 appearances in all competitions this season.

"Yeah, it's not easy adjusting to a new environment, but his contribution is evident at Celtic," Mere tells

"It's always good to see and play against former teammates. He is undoubtedly a great player and I respect him so much. So it's gonna be a nice battle."

The ex-Mamelodi Sundowns man says there are no special tactical plans to foil the 30-year-old.

"Nope, we are playing Celtic not only Mabena. So we will prepare for the whole team."

Meanwhile, Mabena disagrees with the notion that a strong run in the TKO will hamper Stars' bid to escape the relegation zone.

"Not at all, we take each game as it comes and it was in the cup that we had our first win in a long time. So it actually helped us and we won't treat it any differently from league games because we believe they are equally important."

Kick-off is at 15h30 at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
