FC Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde highlights level of La Liga

Posted: 4 November 2017 Time: 11:30

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde believes this past weekend’s action highlighted just how difficult La Liga is.

The Catalan giants have made light work of the opposition this season and currently lead the Spanish top-flight after nine wins and a draw from their opening 10 matches.

Their latest result, a 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao, left Barca four points clear of second-placed Valencia, who saw off Alaves 2-1 at the weekend while reigning champions Real Madrid suffered a shock 2-1 loss at Girona.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid completed La Liga’s top four, sitting below their city rivals on goal difference after playing out a draw against Villarreal.

“La Liga is complicated, it’s a difficult league that we play in,” said Valverde.

“We had to suffer to win at San Mames the other day, Madrid lost in Girona, Atletico Madrid only drew with Villarreal.

“Valencia are second and they struggled to beat Alaves. Every point is hard to get. You have to work hard to win every game.

“This is a weekend that has shown how hard it is to win in this championship and how hard it is to win games.”
