Zinedine Zidane insists Real Madrid are still in the La Liga title race

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane insists it is too early to write his side out of the La Liga title race, despite dropping eight points off the pace.

The Galacticos have endured a rocky start to the Spanish topflight campaign, highlighted by Sunday’s shock 2-1 loss to Girona.

And with current Primera Liga leaders Barcelona undefeated after the opening 10 rounds of fixtures many have already written off Madrid’s title defence, although Zidane feels it is too early to be throwing in the towel.

Zidane told Marca: "We lost three points, and we are eight behind, but nothing is going to change. Real can come back, we will have better days and our rivals will drop points."

Looking back over the match, the Frenchman added: "I don't think we played badly.

“We did not lack intensity, we tried hard, but that's why the defeat bothers me. It's more to do with lack of concentration. Their first goal was from a throw-in and we were not focused."
