UEFA confirm they have opened disciplinary proceedings against Patrice Evra after karate kick on fan

UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against Patrice Evra following the Marseille defender’s flying kick at a fan on Thursday.

The defender was red carded before this week’s UEFA Europa League clash against Vitoria Guimaraes even kicked off following a nasty confrontation between the French club’s players and supporters.

European football’s governing body have since confirmed they have opened an investigation into the former Manchester United left-back, who has already been hit with a one-match ban.

However, the Frenchman faces a far heftier sentence should he be found guilty, an outcome that appears likely due to the clear video evidence against the Marseille man.

The Ligue 1 club have also confirmed they have opened their own investigation into the matter, which saw around 500 fans confront the Marseille players during pre-match, with Evra eventually finding himself at the heart of the fracas and ultimately red-carded by the referee before kick off.
