Marseille coach Rudi Garcia has criticised Patrice Evra for lashing out at a supporter prior to the club's clash with Vitoria Guimaraes.
Evra lost his cool during the warm-up and aimed a kick at a fan's head at the front of the stand at Estadio Dom Afonso Henriques.
The Frenchman, who has 81 international caps, became the first player to be sent off before kick-off in a Europa League match.
Garcia expected more of the experienced 36-year-old, who has been criticised for his poor form this season.
"Pat has experience, and he must not react. It's obvious," Garcia told beIN Sports.
"Patrice is a more than experienced player and we cannot respond, of course, to insults as low as they are and as incredible as they are because they come from one of our supporters."
Garcia added: "He is not a supporter of OM, because you cannot insult your own players, you have to be behind everyone."
Marseille lost the match 1-0, with Paolo Hurtado finding the net in the 90th minute for the Portuguese hosts.
OM are second in Group I, two points adrift of Salzburg and two ahead of Konyaspor with two matchdays left.
