Eymael left fuming yet again

Free State Stars coach Luc Eymael was left fuming yet again at the officiating following his side’s last-gasp loss to Cape Town City on Wednesday evening.

With chances few and far between, the two sides seemed to be heading for a goalless draw, yet defender Taariq Fielies was on hand to smash home after Stars failed to clear the danger from a corner five minutes from time to record a 1-0 win for the Citizens.

Ea Lla Koto goalkeeper Badra Sangare looked to be fouled moments before Fielies’s strike however, with Eymael remonstrating and angered after the game.

“If there’s no foul on the keeper there, I don’t know anything in football,” he said. “It’s two games in a row that we get a bad decision against us, which is not normal. We are working like everybody, so everyone needs to be considered on the same level. That’s all I want to say.

“I know what I saw. I know we were also refused a clear penalty in the first half last week. I’m very disappointed and I don’t want to use any words that I may regret, but I don’t think these things are fair.”

Despite feeling the decision went against his side, Eymael admits his team was not good enough and he vented his frustrations at their poor showing.

“We did not play well today,” he said. “I did not recognise my team, in building on what we did last week Saturday. I don’t know why we can play like that against [Bidvest] Wits, and not reproduce this kind of football today.

“I’m not going to search for excuses. What I am saying about the goal is not an excuse – I’m not hiding myself behind that, it’s a fact. So I won’t search for excuses, we must search for solutions.

“My players made me angry at half-time as I did not recognise my team, especially losing like that against a team who had lost four or five times in a row. So it’s a bit sad, considering all the work we did until now.”

Stars now have a three-week break until their next encounter, a league fixture against high-flying Chippa United.
