Sundowns crush Pirates

Mamelodi Sundowns returned to winning ways on Wednesday night at Orlando Stadium as a spectacular brace from Hlompho Kekana inspired a 3-1 Absa Premiership victory over Orlando Pirates.
A minute into the game, Kekana charged down a clearance from Abbubaker Mobara and the ball ricocheted off him into Wayne Sandilands’ net.
Pirates had their first chance to score in the 11th minute when Thabo Matlaba picked out Thembinkosi Lorch with a delightful long ball. However, Lorch failed to hit the target with his shot.
Two minutes later, Kekana caught Sandilands off his line and sensationally beat him with a shot from just inside his own half.
Milutin Sredojević responded 23 minutes in, bringing Thamsanqa Gabuza on for Thabiso Kutumela — who handled the situation gracefully, shaking his coach’s hand as he came off.
Sredojević was forced into his second substitution 10 minutes later as Innocent Maela came off injured for Musa Nyatama.
In the 38th minute, Marc van Heerden brought Pirates back into the game by scoring with a perfectly-placed free-kick.
Lorch found himself in a good position to score again in stoppage time at the end of the half, but fired well over the target. Sundowns therefore took a 2-1 lead into the break.
Kekana almost completed his hat-trick in the 61st minute, striking the post from a free-kick.
Seven minutes later, Thabo Qalinge put Sundowns’ hearts in their mouths as he took the ball around Denis Onyango. However, he failed to find a team-mate in the box to finish.
Straight afterwards, Khama Billiat came on for Percy Tau.
Pirates then made their final change 73 minutes into the game as Lorch was replaced by Bernard Morrison.
Two minutes after that, Sundowns brought Themba Zwane on for Kekana.
Pitso Mosimane’s final substitution came in the 79th minute, when Anthony Laffor replaced Sibusiso Vilakazi.
Qalinge was handed a glorious chance a minute later as the ball fell into his path, leaving him through on goal. However, he spectacularly missed from right in front of goal.
The hero in the Buccaneers’ win over Arrows turned into the villain this time as Pirates were made to rue that miss. To make matters worse, Laffor put the cherry on top in stoppage time with a stunning strike from just outside the box to seal the three points.
