Mere, George gear up for battle

Platinum Stars captain Vuyo Mere says the Telkom Knockout win over Maritzburg United has raised belief that they can win their first league game of the season against Ajax Cape Town.

Dikwena are rooted to the bottom of the Absa Premiership table with only four points from nine matches heading into tonight's contest at Royal Bafokeng Stadium (19h30).

Roger de Sa's side desperately need to improve their home form, having lost thrice and drawn once in their four matches in front of their supporters.

"True, that we are more worried with the league but it's a definite confidence booster and we will build on it," Mere tells, referring to the last-16 win over Maritzburg on penalties last week.

"There is a lot of improvement in our performance and it's about time we put results behind the positive vibe."

Meanwhile, opposition striker Sedwyn George, who is in Ajax's 18-man matchday squad, expects a desperate and therefore dangerous Stars outfit in Phokeng.

However, he points out the Urban Warriors are also in pressing need of a positive result as they are just four points richer in 14th spot in the standings.

"Just because they are in the bottom doesn't mean it's gonna be easy. They are looking to come out of that position so obviously they are gonna be at their best.

"It's away so it won't be easy for us but we need this win just as bad as they do. There's no game to be taken lightly," says the former Royal Eagles man.
