Kaizer Chiefs' George Maluleka targets Telkom Knockout honours

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka says they’ll give it everything in the Telkom Knockout as they aim to end a run of two years without a trophy under coach Steve Komphela.

Chiefs, who drew 0-0 with Polokwane City in the league last night, will battle Chippa United on Sunday for a place in the semi-finals at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

“I think Kaizer Chiefs is a very big team so we always make sure that we go all out in every cup, or every game,” said Maluleka.

“If the opportunity is there, we want to put our hands on it so why not? We want to go all the way.”

Meanwhile, Maluleka said he has been working on his long-range shooting in training.

The former Ajax Cape Town man netted from distance in the 3-0 win over AmaZulu in the last-16 of the TKO, albeit with the help of a deflection off Mbongeni Gumede’s shin which wrong-footed Usuthu goalkeeper Boalefa Pule.

Maluleka also struck from range in a 2-1 loss to Premiership leaders Baroka at Moses Mabhida Stadium in September.

“Yes, I do, all the time,” he said.

“It is when the coach is not watching and is gone. I really do. I stay after training and ask one of the keepers to help me out.

“Honestly, I do practise shots from range because in a game it’s very rare I get inside the box. So I always find myself in those positions just outside the box.”

He added: “I know I got the power, I got the accuracy and technique, so why not utilise it to my advantage?”
