Jody February says Platinum Stars coach Roger de Sa knows all about Ajax Cape Town

Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper Jody February is wary of former coach Roger de Sa ahead of his side’s trip to Platinum Stars tonight.

Dikwena coach De Sa spent almost two years at Ikamva, taking the Urban Warriors to two cup finals and leading them to MTN8 glory, before parting ways seven games into last season after a winless start.

A short spell at Maritzburg United was followed by his appointment in Rustenburg, where De Sa is yet to taste a league win in seven matches.

Yet February is wary of his former coach, who he knows is well-acquainted with Ajax’s players and set-up.

“Roger knows us, he knows our individual players and our style of play, so it’ll be hard,” February said. “Platinum Stars are in the same predicament that we are, so it will be really tough but I think the boys will pull through.”

February started his first match in six months over the weekend amid Brandon Petersen’s long term injury lay-off, but could not prevent his side from being knocked out of this year’s Telkom Knockout via penalties at the hands of Polokwane City.

“Wednesday is a good chance for us to get back on track,” the goalkeeper said. “It’s not that we conceded – we lost on the lottery of penalties, but we played well, and just couldn’t capitalise on our chances.

“It’s always good to get a few minutes under the belt, and hopefully I stay there and continue to work hard here – there’s nothing else I can do.”

Rustenburg was the venue where current coach Stanley Menzo won his first three points with the Urban Warriors, a 3-2 victory in November last year – a result which February feels bodes well for his side heading into their midweek clash.

“Going there, knowing that we got a good result there last season is more than enough motivation that we can do it,” he said. “We have a long break after this, so we need to get a win to jump up the table to help us.”

Kick-off at Royal Bafokeng Stadium is scheduled for 19h30.
