Celtic down struggling Maritzburg

Posted: 31 October 2017 Time: 17:29

Maritzburg United's struggles in the Absa Premiership continued after they lost 1-0 to Bloemfontein Celtic.

Chances were few and far between in the opening stages of the encounter, as neither side looked to threaten.

Celtic managed to take the lead after 16 minutes as Jacky Motshegwa turned home Deon Hotto's cross from the left flank, 1-0.

The Free State outfit managed to carve out another chance on 35 minutes but Lantshene Phalane sent his effort over the crossbar.

Fadlu Davids' charges, meanwhile, struggled to fashion openings in the first 45 minutes as they went into the break trailing.

Celtic were forced into a change after 62 minutes as Wandisile Letlabika limped off and was replaced by Aphiwe Wandisile Lubisi.

Maritzburg threw numbers forward in an attempt to grab an equaliser in the final 30 minutes of the contest.

However, Veselin Jelusic's charges managed to hold on to possession in the closing stages to claim the victory.
