Polokwane City and Kaizer Chiefs played to a 0-0 draw in an Absa Premiership clash at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.
Amakhosi played deep in their own half in the early stages and nearly caught Rise and Shine on a counter-attack in the sixth minute with Joseph Molangoane gifted acres of space on a galloping run but his decision-making in the final third let the visitors down.
Bernard Parker came close to opening the scoring in the 16th minute with a brilliant diving header which was saved by George Chigova, although the striker was flagged for offside.
Steve Komphela's charges dominated play after half-an-hour and looked more likely to find the opening goal, although they were let down by some wayward crossing.
Bernard Molekwa's troops contained the visitors well up to the end of the first half that ultimately ended goalless.
Rendani Ndou missed an opportunity to give Rise and Shine the lead 10 minutes into the second half after missing an open goal from three yards out after Itumeleng Khune saved Jabulani Maluleke's header.
With Chiefs struggling to get a goal, Gustavo Paez was introduced in the match after 65 minutes with Parker making way.
However, Hendrick Ekstein should have broken the deadlock 15 minutes before time but his shot from inside the box sailed over the crossbar with only Chigova to beat.
Either side could have nicked a goal in the closing minutes with end-to-end attacks.
