Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela faces an interesting choice when the experienced Tsepo Masilela returns from injury given the performance of Philani Zulu in his absence.
Chiefs have been getting results of late with Zulu at left-back, as long-term casualty Masilela recovers on the sidelines from ankle surgery.
Komphela says the players bring different qualities to the table.
“It’s nice competition. Two different kind of players. One has to appreciate the support he [Zulu] gets here, it’s boosting, he’s unbelievably confident,” Komphela said after his side's 3-0 victory over AmaZulu in Durban in the last-16 of the Telkom Knockout on Saturday.
“When Zulu came here [in the off-season from Maritzburg United], I remember we had a discussion and he said he was going to learn from Tsepo.
“You cannot question the quality Tsepo has. Now when you have players who have so much respect for each other, they learn from each other. This one [Zulu] gives you a lot of energy, he’s a workhorse.
“Tsepo will give you brains and we want ‘Mageba’ [Zulu] to take a bit of brains from Tsepo and use it within the big machine he’s got, he’s going to be a masterpiece.
“Unfortunately we cannot steal a bit of the physique from him and put it into Tsepo because through age and experience they’re not the same kind of player. So it’s going to be very interesting [when Masilela comes back], very interesting.”
