Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets lauds Marc-Andre Ter Stegen following La Liga win over Athletic Bilbao

Sergio Busquets has credited Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen for ensuring all three points following Saturday’s 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao.

The Catalan giants led at half-time thanks to Lionel Messi’s 36th-minute opener before Paulinho made sure of the points in second-half injury time to maintain Barca’s undefeated start to the season.

However, it was far from easy going for Ernesto Valverde’s men, who came under plenty of pressure throughout the tie and who ultimately had a string of fine saves from Ter Stegen to thank for keeping them in the game.

“Honestly, we suffered a lot during this game, especially after half time,” Busquets told Movistar.

“They had numerous chances to equalise and put us under a lot of pressure and a large part of our clean sheet is due to Ter Stegen, who has such a high level and ensured we won the game.

“He stood up in those big moments when it mattered when it was scoreless and when we were just a goal ahead with minutes to go.

“But our counter-attacking goal at the end means we have a really strong start to the season and long may it continue.”
