Spanish La Liga match report Girona v Real Madrid 29 October 2017

Posted: 29 October 2017 Time: 15:11

Real Madrid suffered a shock defeat after losing 2-1 to newly promoted Girona on Sunday evening.

Los Blancos broke the deadlock after 12 minutes as Isco finished from close range, after Bono could only parry Cristiano Ronaldo's strike.

Ronaldo nearly doubled Real's lead in the 26th minute, but Bono produced a superb save to deny the Portuguese from close range.

Despite going a goal behind, Girona did not look discouraged and they nearly hit back in the 35th minute when Portu rattled the woodwork from close range.

That proved to be the final clear-cut opening of the half, as Real went into the break leading by the one goal.

10 minutes into the second half, Girona leveled matters as Christian Stuani weaved into the box before firing into the bottom corner.

The home team then took the lead in the 58th minute when Portu turned home Maffeo's strike from close range.

Zinedine Zidane responded with a change as Lucas Vazquez and Marco Asensio replaced Achrag Hakimi and Marcelo in the 67th minute.

Ronaldo squandered a good chance to level matters in the 72nd minute when he directed a header straight at Bono from close range.

Los Blancos were camped in the visitors half as they went in search of an equaliser in the closing stages.

However, Girona saw out the remaining stages to claim an historic three points against the La Liga champions.
