Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka says he has focused on delivering consistent performances for the team.
Maluleka feels he has improved in this regard for the Soweto giants, who he joined in January 2014 from SuperSport United.
“I think one of the things that led to my game dropping was consistency. I have just been trying to rebuild on that lately and so far so good,” Maluleka said.
“And with the help of my teammates and the technical staff as well I managed to do that. Consistency is important because you have games coming thick and fast so you need to make sure that you are performing at your best.”
The 28-year-old was also pleased with his side's showings in their recent 2-1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns and goalless draw against Orlando Pirates.
“The game against Sundowns was a very difficult one but we managed to step up to the plate,” said Maluleka.
“I wouldn’t say the Pirates game threw us off a bit, especially the way they came out. For us, it was a bit unexpected because we saw that they actually played the same formation with us.
“But the second half we came out better because we were able to sort that mess out. I still think we are on the right track. We are looking forward to this game,” he added, referring to Saturday's Telkom Knockout opener with AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The former Ajax Cape Town man expects a tought contest against Usuthu following the Durban outfit's previous 2-1 defeat of Sundowns.
“They have been doing very well and also the fact that the game is in Durban. But we know that we have a very strong support base in Durban and we have also been able to get positive results in the past two games,” Maluleka said.
“We are looking to carry over with those results and performance to this game, which won't be very easy.”
