Thabo Nodada confident Cape Town City can defend Telkom Knockout crown

Cape Town City midfielder Thabo Nodada feels there’s no reason why his side cannot defend their Telkom Knockout crown.
The Citizens claimed last season’s TKO title, just 144 days into their existence, after edging SuperSport United in the final at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
They kick off this year’s tournament against Baroka FC on Sunday at the very same venue they lifted the trophy.
And Nodada feels that triumph serves as motivation for the squad to repeat the feat.
“There’ll always be pressure, whether we are champions or not, because we are a team that wants to win games. But as defending champions we have a right to say we’ve won it and can do it again,” he said. “So it’s a big positive going forward, and obviously playing with guys who won it last season, it’s a big motivation for us. Come the day, we will do our best to get the result.”
Nodada has been impressive in the centre of the park for the Cape club, starting 10 matches so far in all competitions, but showed humility when asked about being the team’s 'number one' midfielder.
“With the current state of the team, I don’t think you can say you are number one! But I think I’m working really hard and giving 110% in every training session and in every game.
“And like the coach has said, if you work hard and deserve to play, then he’ll give you a chance. I just have to bank on that – keep working hard and doing the things he wants me to do, and keep helping the team. And maybe at the end of the season I can say yes, I was number one.”
Sunday's game starts at 15h30.
