Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala is delighted to be back in  the national team after making a return for the first time since 2014.

Tshabalala has been called up for Bafana’s back-to-back crucial World Cup qualifiers against Senegal next month and said he hopes his previous experience will help the team qualify.

“I'm very happy with the call-up. It's an honour to be back in the national team and it’s not about just going there to add numbers but to go there and add value,” Tshabalala said.

“I trust that the knowledge and experience that I have over a number of years will help the team qualify.

“I have said it before that I still want to play for the national team and I will continue working hard. And if I do well at Kaizer Chiefs that will enhance my chances of going back to the national team. So, for now, I'm just happy that I finally got the call-up.”

Tshabalala said he only received the news of his call-up today after training.

“I was still at the village [in Naturena] on my way to the swimming pool for regeneration,” Tshabalala said.

“I was told then that I was in the national team. I was happy and I just thanked myself for working very hard and believing in myself.

“Thanks to my teammates and the technical team for helping me become a better person and a better footballer.”

The 33-year-old feels everyone needs to play the part if Bafana are to beat Senegal and qualify for the World Cup in Russia next year. Bafana need six points to qualify.

“It's a big game for the country and it needs everyone to be there. The fans have a role to play and the players as well.

“This is not only about Bafana but South Africa's pride is at stake, and I'm just happy that I will be among the players that are chosen to be there and represent the country.”
