Bloemfontein Celtic coach Veselin Jelusic says he was happy with his side’s trip to Cape Town following back-to-back fixtures against the Mother City’s two Absa Premiership sides.
Jelusic was obviously disappointed with the loss, but pleased overall, with Celtic having enjoyed little success in Cape Town in the past.
“We are happy that we took three points from the previous game [against Cape Town City] – it was a good and important result for us, especially because it had been a losing time since the team had taken three points from Cape Town,” he said. “We are happy about that, but hoped to achieve more in Saturday’s game. We didn’t though, and will continue to work for future games.”
The Serbian coach tried searching for positives following Saturday’s loss, and felt his players “learnt a lesson” in playing with more heart and the right approach.
“The second half was positive and gives confidence to our players – when we are playing a bit harder and not so soft, we can achieve far more than sitting back and waiting to see what happens in the game,” he said. “So it was a lesson for our players.”
Next up for Celtic is a Telkom Knockout clash against CAF Confederation Cup finalists SuperSport United, with Jelusic keeping calm about facing South Africa’s in-form team.
“We respect all our opponents, but in all games, we look to take the maximum that is possible,” he said. “That is our general approach, and what will happen, we can only see after the game.”
