Real Madrid defender Marcelo rates La Liga as the strongest league in world football

Posted: 23 October 2017 Time: 17:15

Real Madrid defender Marcelo has rated the Spanish La Liga as the toughest league in the world following Sunday’s 3-0 win over Eibar.

The Galacticos had suffered a wobble at the start of their Primera Liga title defence but have since steadied the ship, with this weekend’s win at the Santiago Bernabeu leaving them five points adrift of leaders Barcelona.

However, with Madrid’s superstar striker Cristiano Ronaldo having bagged only one league goal this season, talk of a fall from grace for Los Blancos has been making the rounds, although Marcelo believes the perception of competition in La Liga has been skewed.

"People forget just how tough the Spanish league is. It’s the strongest league in the world,” Brazil international Marcelo said after the game.

"You've got to be patient. We put in a good performance and scored three goals. This is a very tough competition to play in."
