Absa Premiership match report Mamelodi Sundowns v AmaZulu 21 October 2017

Posted: 21 October 2017 Time: 15:14

AmaZulu came from behind to register a 2-1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday evening.

Thokozani Sekotlong grabbed his first goal for Masandawana in the eighth minute with a low finish from close range, following a great attacking move that saw left-back Fares Hachi deliver a cross into the striker's path.

Pitso Mosimane's charges were dominating play after half-an-hour, with Oupa Manyisa standing out as their focal point in their passing game.

Percy Tau had the ball in the back of the net in the 37th minute, but his strike was flagged offside by the assistant referee.

Usuthu only came to life in the final five minutes of the half, with Michael Morton coming close to being awarded a penalty after being fouled inside the box.

Nevertheless, Sundowns went into the break with a deserved lead.

Hachi nearly created a second goal for Sundowns in the 55th minute but Mbongeni Gumede made a timely tackle to deny Tau in the box.

Mhlengi Cele came close to equalising for Cavin Johnson's troops in the 69th minute following a through ball inside the box but his shot sailed narrowly wide of the upright.

Substitute Siyabonga Nomvethe eventually brought Usuthu level in the 80th minute, as he profited from a poor clearance by goalkeeper Brimah Razak to score from close range.

Mabhuti Khenyeza, a former Sundowns player, then netted the winner for the visitors in the 87th minute after Razak made another howler, coming off his line to clear a long ball but the striker was quickest to the ball and slotted it into an empty net.

Sundowns pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages of the encounter, but they were unable to break the AmaZulu defence and were condemned to a second straight league defeat
