Orlando Pirates captain Thabo Matlaba has called for greater commitment from his side ahead of the Soweto Derby against rivals Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium tomorrow.

Matlaba feels this area was lacking when his team drew 1-1 against Platinum Stars at the same venue on Wednesday.

"I think the Derby is the perfect platform to turn things around. As you saw in our game against Platinum Stars we had a lot of chances but we didn't convert them," Matlaba said.

"If we can fix that and start converting our chances and focus after scoring, because we scored first and they equalised immediately. There was a lack of commitment, so we have to commit ourselves and focus all the time when we score."

Matlaba continued: "Whoever wins on the day, they will want it more. If you look back at our match against Bidvest [Wits] they wanted it more although we had a lot of chances there.

"This is not the first time we go into the Derby having not won the game before. It's either we lose or draw, so for us it is not a discouragement to go to the Derby with a 1-1 draw against Platinum Stars."

The utility player insisted his team are not underdogs despite riding a three-game winless run and Chiefs' morale-boosting 2-1 victory at Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday.

"We have been doing well, it is just that we were not getting results. It's only the draws and that happens in football. We are not underdogs. We are going there to play a match and win."
